Emerging Expertise

experience-for-work.jpg

As I prepare for a future career as a Physician Assistant, I have started developing skills related to patient care, communication, and cultural awareness in healthcare. These skills are important when working with patients from different backgrounds and when addressing health issues such as maternal and infant health. I have started to understand how healthcare providers support patients through both compassion and evidence based care.

These experiences show how I have started building these skills through school projects, work experience, and learning about healthcare in different settings.

Artifact 1:

Study Abroad in South Korea

Last summer, I participated in a study abroad program in South Korea that focused on healthcare systems and interprofessional collaboration. During the program, we learned how different healthcare professionals work together to support patient care and improve health outcomes. We also discussed how healthcare systems and cultural beliefs can influence patient care in different countries. This experience was one of the most enlightening moments of my college career. It strengthened my interest in healthcare and encouraged me to pursue a career as a Physician Assistant.

Artifact 2:

Maternal Health Infographic

For a Health Sciences project, I created an infographic about maternal health outcomes and disparities. This project required researching public health data and presenting complex information in a clear and accessible way. Through this assignment, I gained a deeper understanding of the challenges surrounding maternal health and the importance of improving outcomes for mothers and infants. It strengthened my interest in working as a PA in maternal healthcare and working to improve outcomes for mothers and infants.

Skills: Research and communicating health information in a creative way.

My work at Select Physical Therapy is where I intend to  complete my Health Sciences capstone internship site and my Honors experience. My position as a Patient Service Specialist is how I will be completing my hours and earning Honors credit this semester.

As a Patient Service Specialist, I work closely with patients and healthcare staff in a clinical environment. I help coordinate appointments, communicate with patients, and support the daily operations of the clinic. This experience has helped me develop professionalism and strong communication skills when interacting with patients and healthcare providers.
